TS Parameters (Measured by Data-Bass.com)
The LMS-5400 Ultra is known for its high excursion and thermal handling, powerful linear motor, low Q and low distortion. The 5400 is argued by many as the best 18" high excursion transducer available. There aren't many downsides to this driver's performance, but the biggest one is obviously its price tag. The second being the sheer 80lb weight. If you can get past these details, then you'll probably love the performance that the driver will deliver. The 2010 5400 Ultra features a few improvements over its 2007 predecessor. Most noteworthy is its larger 11" spiders, new stainless steel former, slightly thicker, more durable cone and an increase in mechanical clearance from 44mm to 47.6mm. Like all the newer TC drivers, the Ultra also gets the new bolt down style top assembly instead of the older screw on style top assembly. The bolt on arrangement is more consistent and less prone to loosening up during long term use. The Ultra still remains an expensive driver at roughly 900 dollars. Performance wise the 2010 version offers incremental rather than gigantic improvements over the preceding version, but the performance of the original version was already exemplary in most performance metrics. Distortion, thermal compression, low frequency maximum output, inductance, small enclosure requirements and smoothly extended frequency response up past 250Hz are all areas that this driver performs well in.
